What is the star system?
The star system calculates the number of pieces that were handled by Conchology, Inc. in the last 21 years:

We want to point out that the star system is only very reliable for PHILIPPINE shells only, as we handle very few foreign shells in general. As time goes, the system will become more and more performant.

At present, we live several technical revolutions simultaneously, all influencing the science of alpha taxonomy. Internet has changed the way we communicate: high speed all over. Not only that, tremendous quantities of hitherto not accessible information has become available on our fingertips, through sites like Biodiversity Heritage. A digital revolution has changed the way we photograph and film things. And especially in more complicate parts of science: a molecular revolution has changed the way we look and apply taxonomy today.
All these together resulted in changes on the family level, on the genus level and on the species level. As a consequence, thousands of names of mollusks have changed constantly over the last ten years.
One organism online keeps track of these changes: the database WORMS. We constantly update our databases in Conchology, Inc., and also a database of the names applied in the Volumes 1 to 5 of Philippine Marine Mollusks.
In THE LISTING, you will find the corrected names of the shells figured, with special references, often explaining the where and how of the recent changes.
