Remarks:

originally appeared as subl?vigata.   It seems likely that this is really an ae ligature, but in an italicized font.  The same character was used in the figure captions of eleutheræ (Pillsbry and Vanatta, 1896:caption to figs. 19, 20) which was spelled with an unitallicized æ in the text.
