We want to point out that the star system is only very reliable for PHILIPPINE shells only, as we handle very few foreign shells in general. As time goes, the system will become more and more performant.

There are 1,499 paralectotypes, including USNM 1093795, MCZ 76401 (2 specimens), and MCZ 76169.
This binomen was first used by Maynard (1920b:85) [as plebeia] as an example of a frequently decollated species [80 of 1500 specimens], and included a reference to an illustration of an apertural view of a shell published in the following issue (Maynard 1920c: fig. 66, pl. 14, fig. 1). This taxon has been the victim of multiple lapsi calami, having been spelled plebeia when first used as a nomen nudum, plebea in the unintended, but valid description, and plebia in the intended taxonomic description aw well as in a subsequent listing in the sales catalogue (Maynard, 1924?:3). Article 32.5.1 (ICZN, 1999:39) dictates that the spelling plebea be used for this taxon, since there is no clear evidence to suggest an alternative spelling within the original publication itself. Strophiops plebea Maynard, 1920, has a different spelling, authorship, and date of publication from that cited by Clench (1957:158).
