"Cerion palmeri nov. sp.

Descripción. - Concha cilíndrica, muy alargada y estriada, región umbilical perforada. Color general pajizo marmoreado de blanco grisáceo. El tercio apical de fondo más obscuro. Provisto de once vueltas. Vueltas nucleares dos y media, la primera lisa y las restantes ligeramente estriadas. Las vueltas post-nucleares provistas de una escultura axil constituídas por costillitas poco elevadas y muy próximas. La espira forma un cono alargado casi cilíndrico. Vueltas convexas con las suturas bien impresas. Abertura subcircular con el perístoma tenuemente extendido y unido en.la pared de la concha por un callo poco pronunciado, diente parietal poco pronunciado a veces ausente en la abertura, diente columelar poco desarrollado.

Localidad. - Cayo Romano, 22° 24 N. 76° 6 W (Mr. R. H. Palmer colectó y donó varios ejemplares al autor).
Nota. -La forma cílindrica alargada de esta especie la diferencia de las otras especies conocidas de Cuba, aunque aparentemente la más cercana pertenece a la especie Cerion gundlachi, de San Juan de los Perros. El tipo de esta especie ha sido depositado en la colección del autor con el número 1,002 y un paratipo en el Museo Poey de la Universidad de La Habana." (Sánchez Roig, 1948:68)
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Description. - cylindrical shell, very elongated and fluted, perforated umbilical region. A general straw color marbled with grayish-white. The apical third with a darker background. Eleven whorls. Two and a half nuclear whorls, the first smooth with the rest slightly fluted. The post-nuclear whorls have an axial sculpture composed of closely spaced and slightly elevated small ribs. The spire forms an elongated cone, almost cylindrical. Convex whorls with well defined sutures. Subcircular aperture with perístome tenuously extended and joined at the shell wall by a callus that is not very pronounced, parietal tooth not very pronounced sometimes absent in the aperture, columellar tooth not well developed.

Note. - the elongated cylindrical form of this species distinguished it from the other species known in Cuba, although apparently the most similar being the Cerion species gundlachi, of San Juan de los Perros. The type of this species has been deposited in the author's collection under the number 1,002 and a paratype, in the Poey Museum of the University of Havana.
