"Cerion orientale, new species

Description. - Shell large, robust, rimately perforate and reaching a length of 39 mm. (1½ inches). Color a dull white, the interior of the aperture being a light milky-brown to white. Whorls 11, the first seven forming a slightly concave cone, the remainder flatsided and nearly straight. Spire extended, the conic portion formed at an angle of 85°. Aperture subcircular with a much thickened lip. Palatal lip reflected and slightly turned back. Parietal wall thickened but not built forward to form a ridge. Columella arched. Umbilical area rather large, umbilicus consisting of a rimation with a small but deep hole penetrating the axis. Suture defined but not very conspicuous. Sculpture consisting mainly of rather fine growth lines, a few specimens showing faint traces of rather widely spaced costae. Nuclear whorls smooth and opaque white.

Types. - Holotype, Museo Poey no. 12534, from Punta Nigra, 18 kilometers Southwest of Punta Maisi, Oriente Cuba. Paratypes, Museum Comparative Zoölogy no. 188582, from the same locality.
Remarks. - This species is related to Cerion dimidiatum Pfr. from Gibara. It differs by having the spire more extended, being larger and heavier and by possessing a more thickened lip. In addition, it has the interior of the aperture colored a milky-brown while in dimidiatum the aperture is china-white." (Clench & Aguayo, 1951:79-80)
