This taxon, which first appeared as a nomen nudum (Maynard, 1919b:36), was never illustrated. Maynard (1924c:6) listed S. novita as nearly extinct (only one specimen) in 1924, due to burning of vegetation prior to cultivation. Gould and Woodruff (1986:476) regarded this taxon to be "intermediate" between Cerion glans (Küster, 1844) and C. gubernatorium (Crosse, 1869).
