Types. - Holotype, Museo Poey no. 17293, and paratypes, Museum of Comparative Zoölogy no. 187476, from Playa de Morales 11 kilometers S. E. of Banes, Oriente, Cuba, collected by C. G: Aguayo, W. J. Clench and A. Quiñones in July 1945. Additional paratypes from Playa Larga, 2 kilometers N. W. of Cabo Lucrecia; Punta de Mulas (PI. 11, fig. 13) ; and Punta del Puerte, all near Banes, Oriente, Cuba.
Remarks. - The various localities given above cover a distance of about 25 kilometers, though the species is not at all continuous along this coast. Other species occupy intervening territory.
This is a relatively large species and is a member of the vulneratum complex. This complex is composed of shells that are relatively smooth and possess a coloration ranging from very pale yellowish to a rather dark brownish-red which is generally mottled or marbled with white.
In relationship moralesi is fairly close to Cerion torrei Pilsbry and Vanatta from west of Puerto Vita, a locality about 40 kilometers west of Punta Lucrecia the westernmost locality at which C. moralesi was found.
C. moralesi diffE'rs from C. torrei by being much larger, possessing a more conic summit, being much smoother and by being somewhat lighter in structure.
Mr. A. Quiñones collected a large series of C. moralesi at a different area at Playa Morales that were much smaller than the typical series, the smallest measuring 19 mm. in length.
This species was discovered a few years before, by Mr. Alberto Quiñones, from Banes, Oriente." (Clench & Aguayo, 1951:77-78)
