"Shell cylindric to elongate-conic, generally ribbed, solid, usually imperforate, occasionally rimately perforate. Color white, somewhat shiny, not mottled. Interior of aperture pale brownish yellow. Whorls 9 to 11 1/2, most of the shells having about 9 3/4 to 10, first 2 1/2 whorls glasslike, remainder porcelaneous. First 7 whorls, rounded conic, last 3 whorls more or less straight sided. Spire variable, forming an angle of about 70(. Aperture sub-circular. Parietal tooth well developed and about twice as long as high. Columellar lamella smaller and inclined slightly upwards. Parietal ridge rather strong. Lip thickened and somewhat reflexed. Sutures on the early whorls faintly indicated, but rather deeply incised on the last two. Sculpture of irregular growth line and irregular ribs, a very few specimens appearing smooth. The number of ribs vary on the body whorl from 4 to 16. Nuclear whorls usually smooth, occasionally faintly ribbed.
