Types. - Holotype, Museo Poey no. 12667. Paratype, Museo Poey and Museum of Comparative Zoölogy no. 187317, from Playa Morrillo, 11 kilometers west of Bahía Honda, Pinar del Rio, Cuba. Aguayo, Bermúdez, Clench, Jaume, Sánchez-Roig and Turner collectors.
Additional records from Cabo San Antonio and near by localities and Cayo Real, La Coloma, all in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
Remarks. - This species has a wide distribution in western Cuba. It extends from Playa Morrillo, near Bahía Honda on the north coast west to Cabo San Antonio and east along the south coast as far as La Coloma. Specimens from these various localities do differ but their differences appear to be of a minor nature and fall well within the limits of variation often expressed in single colonies in various species in this genus.
Named in honor of F. Cisneros, an early cuban collector who obtained the first known specimens of this species near Cabo de San Antonio.
Cerion cisnerosi is a member of the C. cyclostomum Küster group (group IV as delimited by Pilsbry. Manual of Conchology, 1902 (2) 14, p. 196). It appears to be nearest in relationship to C. pineria Dall (Pl. V, fig. 5) from the Isle of Pinas. The main center for the group is in Oriente Province, though representatives are known from most of the northern Cuban coast.
Differs from C. cyclostomum (= C. pineria Dall. ?) from the Isle of Pines, by its stronger and more separated ribs (32-38 in the last whorl in C. cisnerosi; 50-60 in C. cycostomum).
