"Cerion blanesi, spec. nov.

Cerion blanesi Torre, ms. (in sched.)

   Description. - Shell cylindrical, ranging from obese to elongated and nearly one inch in length. Rimately perforated. Whorls 8½ to 9½, convex, with impressed suture. First  nuclear whorl sub-punctate, following whorls axially striated, changing to costulated. Costae straight to alightly sigmoid, very crowed at the base, and disappearing in the umbilical chink. Last whorl about 42-50 costae. Color white, with irregular reddish-brown, or violaceus axial blotches. Peristome white. Interior of the aperture purplish brown. Aperture subcircular, peristome thickned and reflexed. Sides united by a parietal callous. Parietal and columelar teeth very small.

     Types. - Holotype, Museo Poey no. 17266. Paratypes M. C. Z. no. 52784 form Los Cocos, East side of Bahía de Gibara. Holotype collected by F. Blanes, paratypes collected by C. G. Aguayo from the same locality.

     Remarks. - Near in its relationship to C. josephi Cl. & Ag., 1949, found at 20 miles West of Gibara, but is rather stronger, having with coarser sculture and possesses a less elongate shape.

     It is named for the well known late cuban malacologist F. Blanes, who years ago supplied much material from the north coast of Cuba." (Clench & Aguayo, 1951:70-71)
