Remarks:
The first usage of this taxon was in the form of a citation, as if it where previously published. See remarks under Strophia curtissii nivia. Following Article 32.5.2.4 (ICZN, 1999:40) the hyphen is removed from varia-nivia and the taxon becomes varianivia. Gould and Woodruff (1986:478) regarded this taxon to be a synonym of Cerion gubernatorium (Crosse, 1869).
