Dante Jaboli, born in Bologna on 28 February 1916, was an Italian geologist. He was a petroleum geologist who led the exploration effort of AGIP in the sixties and seventies of the XXth century and did much to bring the Italian gas and oil industry in the world. He graduated in Natural Sciences at the University of Bologna in 1940, under the guidance of the geology professor Michele Gortani, after having participated, from 1936 to 1938 to two Agip's geological campaigns in Somalia and Ethiopia. After the war, he described new species of Jurassic molluscs and brachiopods from this expedition. In 1941 he was hired by Agip as an area geologist for Southern Italy. At the beginning of 1941 he was recalled to arms with the qualification of Corporal Student Officer of the University Battery of the 17th Regiment of Artillery. With the rank of Second Lieutenant he was taken prisoner in Dalmatia and deported to Germany where he was freed by the Allies in May 1945, from the Wietgendorf prison camp, located within the Bremen-Hamburg-Hanover triangle. He returns to Italy and, therefore, to Agip where he dedicated all of himself with intelligence and extreme passion. Jaboli died in Bologna on 13 May 1991. - Edit
