The CHITONIDAE, or the Chitons proper, are a rather large family with 4 different subfamilies:

-RAPANUIINAE
- TONICIINAE
The genus Chiton has a very large number of species. The girdles of the CHITONIDAE are covered with scales. The family lives all over the planet. From small to large in size.
