CASSIDAE

Mainly subtropical and tropical species. When collected, most CASSIDAE are quite clean. Shells often have small growth marks and trawling damages the siphonal canal. An intact siphonal canal or not will often make the difference between FINE and GEM. Their operculae are interesting. Some species live in deep water and are cherished by collectors. Phalium wyvellei has been from northwestern Australia to the collector. Japanese continental shelf dwellers such as Galeodea leucodoma were common at the end of the sixties but are rare and hard to get now. About 130 taxa, including species, subspecies and forms.
