Until recently this was a subfamily in the ISCHNOCHITONIDAE, but now considered a valid separate family. There are five genera, of which Callochiton is the biggest with a large number of species. Callochiton have a wde girdle with elonate spines and scales. They have a worldwide range, but the best known European species is definitely the septemvalvis.
Eudoxochiton live in Australia and New Zealand, but there are only two species.
