Type Material:
Lectotype, MNHN Paris.

The type lot at MNHN contained seven specimens, one identified as the figured specimen of P. gubernatoria from New Providence Island, one identified as variety β from Rocksand, Eleuthera, and five additional specimens without clear identification of locality.  The segretated specimen from New Providence closely matches the published illustration and is here designated as the lectotype of Pupa gubernatoria Crosse, 1869 to provide an objective standard of reference with this species group taxon.

Remarks:
Variety β from Eleuthera was later named Cerion eleutherae by Pilsbry and Vanatta, 1896.  See Clench (1952: 106-107).
