"Cerion (Strophiops) caicosense new species

Description.-Shell cylindro-conic, imperforate, smooth to ribbed and somewhat light in weight. Color a chalk-white with the interior of the aperture a rather deep cream. Whorls nine and one half, upper six taper­ing convexly to the summit, lower three whorls nearly parallel-sided. Angle of spire somewhat variable, but approximating 80°. Aperture subovate with the lip reflexed and recurved backward for a very short distance. Parietal tooth small and short. Columellar lamella long, extending back­ward for a whorl and a half. Sculpture of fairly numerous axial ribs, 26-29 on the body whorl, disappearing entirely on the early whorls. A very few specimens are smooth throughout.

Holotype.-Mus. Comp. Zo61., no. 116,021, Cockburn Town, South Caicos Island, Turks Islands. James C. and Gilbert Greenway collectors, February,1936. Paratypes from the same locality.

This species is somewhat closely related to C. incanoides P. and V., but differs from that species by its smaller size, its lack of surface color and the differences in the apertural teeth, the parietal tooth in this form being much smaller and the colu­mellar tooth longer. The lip in incanoides is more or less flat, the present form has a definite, though very short, recurve or back fold. I t is a member of the C. regina assemblage of spe­cies."
